Susan K. St. John Schaelling, age 81, passed away Friday, January 17, 2025. Funeral services will be held at the Hamilton Street Church of Christ in Olney, Texas on Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:00 pm. For those who wish to attend, there will be family visitation at the Hamilton Street Church of Christ Fellowship Hall from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Coffee, tea and snacks will be available. Flowers may be sent to Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.

Susan was born July 8, 1943 at Sheppard Air Force Base in Wichita Falls, Texas to the late Delbert and Jackey St. John. She graduated from Olney High School where she was a featured twirler and played basketball. Susan earned her beauty license shortly after graduation in Wichita Falls, Texas. She finally met the love of her life, Joseph Ward Schaelling. Joseph's work took them to many places, they lived in Germany, Georgia, Utah, and San Diego (Coronado) before returning to Texas to be close to family.

Susan donated her much of her time supporting multiple organizations. She volunteered with the Crisis Pregnancy Center and Wichita Falls Hotter'N Hell bike race. She was a life guard instructor for close to twenty years for the Red Cross.  At Vernon Regional Junior College, she also served as an instructor in the beauty college.

Susan loved the Lord and served Him. She hosted a home bible study for over twenty years with her love Joe. She lived her faith daily. Susan had a gift for meeting complete strangers and praying for them. In a typical day, she could meet and pray for multiple strangers. She had a heart for those that were hurting.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Delbert and Jackey St. John, her husband, Joseph Ward Schaelling on February 17, 2008, her sister, Diane Whitaker, and her granddaughter, Lauren Elizabeth.

Susan is survived by her sons, Tommy Dee Taylor and Christopher Lee Schaelling, her six grandchildren: Bailey, Madison, Ashley, Joseph, Justin, and Julia; and her four great grandchildren: Cutter, Will, Ollie, and Jackson Lee.
