Thelma McDonnell Jeter Thurman
Olney ~ Thelma McDonnell Jeter Thurman, age 85, died Thursday, August 21, 2014 at Grace Care Center in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, August 24, 2014, in the chapel of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney, Texas with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating, assisted by Scotte Clark of Olney. Interment will follow in the Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Thelma was born February 11, 1929 in Double Mountain, Texas of Stonewall County to the late Quincey Truman and Opal Harvey (Agnew) McDonnell. She was a graduate of Aztec, New Mexico High School class of 1948. She married Harold "Major" Jeter on September 17, 1948 in Portales, New Mexico. He preceded her in death on December 26, 1972. She later married Arlin Thurman on September 16, 1977 at the Young County Courthouse in Graham, Texas. He preceded her in death in July, 1984. She moved to Olney in 1975 from Gig Harbor, Washington and worked for nine years in the laundry department at Seven Oaks Nursing Home and for fifteen years in housekeeping at Hamilton Hospital. Thelma was a faithful member of First Baptist Church in Olney.
Thelma was preceded in death by her parents, both husbands, and one sister, LaVern Fletcher.
Thelma is survived by her three sons: Kenneth Jeter of Olalla, Washington, Larry Jeter and wife Pat of Blanco, New Mexico, and Ralph Jeter and wife Shirley of Olney, Texas; one daughter, LaDene Whitaker and husband Dexter of Olney, Texas; one brother, Q.T. McDonnell and wife Montene of Conner Arkansas; sixteen grandchildren, forty-one great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Family visitation will be from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the funeral home.
The family suggests memorials be made to Solaris Hospice, 2250 South FM 51, Decatur, Texas 76234 or to First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 734, Olney, Texas 76374.
