Tom Lundy, age 76, died Thursday, November 25, 2021, in Ft. Worth. Visitation will be from 3:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Sunday, November 28, 2021, at Lunn Funeral Home in Olney. Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 29, 2021, in the Chapel of Lunn Funeral Home with Chad Edgington, pastor of First Baptist Church, officiating. Burial will follow at Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney.
Tom was born on June 17, 1945 in Rural Shade, Texas, the youngest of eight children born to the late James Russell Lundy and Mabel Beatrice (Glasgow) Lundy. He graduated from Trinidad High School and attended East Texas State University where he received his Masters Degree in Education. Tom served his country proudly in the United States Air Force from 1966 to 1970 and received an Honorable Discharge at the rank of Staff Sergeant. He served one tour of duty in Vietnam and received the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with 2 Bronze Stars, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Air Force Commendation Medal and Air Force Good Conduct Medal. He married Gerald Ann Stephens on June 22, 1968, in Texarkana, Texas. Tom was a Math and Science teacher and had taught 5 th grade math at Mabank, Texas Intermediate School, and he was the head teacher at Wellington, Kansas 6 th grade center. He also taught at several other schools during his teaching career. He moved to Olney in 2009 from Oxford, Kansas. Tom was an ordained Deacon and had taught youth Sunday School and was a former Sunday School Superintendant. He was currently a member of First Baptist Church in Olney. Tom was a past member of the Oxford, Kansas Lions Club and had coached girl's softball and Jr. High football. He received the Wal-Mart Teacher of the Year Award in Wellington, Kansas and had served as President of the Bowie Co. TSTA Unit. Tom loved wood carving, wood working and camping.
Tom was preceded in death by his parents; his daughter, Paige Lundy Scott; two sisters, Carol Dean Getty and Valta Dick; one brother, William Lundy; sister-in-law, Dorothy Lundy; two nephews, Mark Lundy and Don Ellison; and two nieces, Diane Paul and Carol Tolbert.
Tom is survived by his wife of 53 years, Ann Lundy of Olney; one granddaughter, Emma Scott of Olney; son-in-law, Stephen Scott of Olney; one sister, Ruth Lang and husband David of Mt. Alba, Texas; three brothers, Allen Lundy and wife Cynthia of Comanche, Texas, J.B. Lundy of Kerens, Texas and Jack Lundy and wife Sara of Normangee, Texas; eleven nieces and seven nephews.
