Troy Martin Rogers, 80, passed over to new life on Monday, January 19, 2015. Memorial services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, 2015, at the First Baptist Church in Olney, Texas, with Reverend Chad Edgington officiating. Burial with family and friends will be at Restland Cemetery in Olney, Texas at 1:00 p.m. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home in Olney.
Troy was born in Olney, Texas, on January 8, 1935, to Dula Martin Rogers and Ethel May (Smith) Rogers. Troy graduated from Olney High School in 1953 and married his sweetheart, Cleo Rue on April 9, 1955, in Olney. The couple resided in Olney and enjoyed nearly sixty years of marriage.
Troy worked in the oil field for over sixty years. He was blessed to have a job that he found interesting and enjoyable. He worked as a roughneck, driller, downhole tool operator, chemical salesman, drilling contractor, operator and producer during his career. Many mentors and friends helped Troy along the way. The friendships forged in the shared labor and challenges of work were his greatest reward. His work expanded into a family business with his wife, daughter, son and grandchildren working at various jobs in the business. Troy always shared that work wasn't a job if you were doing something you enjoyed.
Troy was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his loving wife , Cleo Rogers of Olney; his children: Rhonda Rogers and husband Keith Glowka of Burnet, Texas, Ronald Rogers and wife Melody of Olney; his grandchildren: Raegen Rogers and husband Dane Woodley of Austin, Texas, Riley Greer and husband Garrett of Dallas, Texas, Rue Rogers of Houston, Texas, and Reece Rogers and fiancée Kimberly Welwood of Waco, Texas; one brother, Clifford Rogers and wife Sharon of Las Vegas, Nevada; four sisters: Joyce Krueger of Olney, Glenda Ogle and husband James of Olney, Kay Hill of Olney, Roxie McVay and husband Gary of Garland, Texas.
No visitation is scheduled, but the family will host a reception at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall after the memorial service. The family would love to visit and share our favorite memories at the reception.
