Willis J. "Steve" Scott, age 82, died November 2, 2013 at Hamilton Hospital in Olney, Texas. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, November 5, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church of Olney, Texas with Harrell Braddock, Jr., pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in Restland Cemetery in Olney. Arrangements are under the direction of Lunn Funeral Home of Olney, Texas.
Mr. Scott was born on November 17, 1930 in Vega, Texas to the late Willie Joe and Anna Agnetta (Bergstrom) Scott. He married Juanelle Davis on June 27, 1952 in Tucumcari, New Mexico, and they celebrated their sixty-first anniversary in June of 2013. He served in the United States Naval Reserves. He received his Bachelors Degree in Agriculture and Math from West Texas State University in Canyon, Texas, and was a graduate of the Dale Carnegie Public Speaking Course. He taught school in Friona, Stratford, and Miami, Texas. He worked four years for Plainview Production Credit Union, before going back to his first love of farming and ranching.. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Olney, Texas. He moved to Olney, Texas in 2012 from Melrose, New Mexico. While living in Melrose he was active in the Parents Teachers Association, the Band and Athletic Booster Clubs, where he served as President. He was also past-President of the Melrose Senior Citizens Board of Directors, and served several terms on the Finance Committee of the Melrose First United Methodist Church.
Mr. Scott was preceded in death by his parents, one brother: James Robert "Pedro" Scott, one sister: Joan Cook, and a nephew: Steve Meyers.
Survivors include his wife, Juanelle Scott of Olney, Texas; one son, Dickie Scott and wife Gail of Olney, Texas; one daughter, Becky Reed and husband Joe of Melrose, New Mexico; four granddaughters: D'Layna Moore and husband Jordan of Clovis, New Mexico, Robin Caton and husband Steve of Melrose, New Mexico, Sydnee Scott of Austin, Texas, and Kodee Scott of Olney, Texas; and one great-grandson, Reed Stephen Caton.
